What is social messaging and how it differs from social media?
Social messaging is a new wave of the Internet which is transforming how people stay online and communicate with others. If social media focuses on the community and can be seen as the “Internet of people”, social messaging focuses on the individual and can be seen as the “Personal Internet”.
Isn’t this a selfish move?
Personal Internet is still the Internet of people. However, the community is no longer treated as a blob and the fundamental rights of each individual come first. In our case, we refer to "respect" and "safety", which together lead to "freedom of expression". How can you truly express yourself if you feel constantly unsafe and under attack?
How this translates in terms of user experience?
Contents on the platform are public but users’ interactions are private. This pulls the plug on haters and bad actors, and lets you share your life and opinions without being exposed to public mockery and contempt. Also, your searches and the contents you save are anonymous. Your online status is private. Your followers are private. The likes and replies you receive are private. And we removed all those virtual bonds among users that generate anxiety. In a nutshell, Presence is the safest place ever to be online.
Who is Presence for? Which people will benefit the most from it?
Presence is for everybody. No matter if we are celebrities, politicians or everyday people. We all need safety, respect and freedom. And we all suffer the same when we receive unmannered comments, insults and attacks.
I see many celebrities using and promoting Presence. Are they involved directly in the company?
Celebrities and public figures are the favorite targets of haters, therefore there is no wonder that they are in love with Presence. And because they know the importance of our mission first-hand, they are promoting it to their fans as an act of love and protection. A few of them, the ones we got to know at the beginning of our journey, are also involved as testimonials or investing partners.
Is it true that Presence was conceived after US 2016 elections and Brexit?
These two events, along with many scandals (e.g. Cambridge Analytica), have shown that bad actors can exploit social media to manipulate voters. Presence is not a political initiative, but unlike Facebook, it has been designed in order to prevent any form of manipulation. Our goal is simple: let the people decide who win or lose the elections, not a different nation, neither the cyber criminals.

What do I do on Presence?
You use Presence to share contents about yourself and your life, express opinions, communicate with others and stay informed on what's happening in the world or your favorite topics. Think of Presence like merging Google with Facebook without all the icky stuff.
How Presence differs from Facebook and social media applications?
Presence is a new breed of applications, so a side by side comparison is impossible. However, it combines the visibility of social media with the secrecy of a chat application, so you can communicate with million of people publicly but never be attacked in front of the others. This is probably the first thing you will notice by comparing Presence to social media and the one you will love above all.
How Presence differs from Whatsapp and chat applications?
Same as above, a side by side comparison is impossible. Presence provides you with chat functionality through its Instant screen, however, we redefined chat rules and Instant doesn’t work like Whatsapp. We mostly use direct messages to deliver you all the social interactions on your Stories and the sort of notifications that belong to the social media world.
Can I hide my online status?
You don’t have to. Presence doesn’t work as a conventional chat application. Nobody can see when/if you are online or offline. Also, there is no such a thing as “last seen” login time.
Can I disable read receipts?
There is no such a thing in Presence. More precisely, there are no check-marks notifying people when/if you read their messages.
If read receipts are not available, how do I know if my message has been read?
We sincerely believe you shouldn’t know. We think these virtual bonds are evil, they generate anxiety and put disorder in human relationships. Just think about the many times you have been asked: “Why you haven’t read my message?”. And how many times you have checked your phone compulsively only to see if someone had the chance to read your message? With Presence, you send a message and if the person can/wants to reply, you will soon or later receive a reply. As simply as that.
What if my message goes unnoticed?
You can re-send it, of course. However, we have rules that prevent spamming or hatred activity among users. Also, someone can report you and in that case we will deactivate your account.
How your anti-hater policy works?
Unlike social media, all the communications on Presence are sent in the chats, so nobody can be attacked in front of the others. Beside that, we have a strict policy against abusive messages, and if someone reports you, we will take immediate action. The first report will deactivate your account for 1 month. The second one will deactivate it for 3 months. The third one will deactivate it for 3 years. The only way for you to avoid our restrictions is to buy a new SIM and change your phone number.
Who owns the messages on the platform? Can I delete my messages?
You own your messages and you can delete all the messages you sent to anyone, at any time and on both ends. However, please consider that people can take screenshots of your messages or take a photo of them with the help of a second phone. This goes to say that even if we do everything possible to protect your data, you should always pay attention to what you write and to whom you write to.
How to create group chats?
Please use you favorite chat application to create and enjoy group chats. At Presence, we group messages, not people. For example, we group all the messages that are replies or likes to the same story of yours, all the notification about people who started to follow you or mentioned you, etc.
Will social media convert itself into social messaging sooner or later?
We deeply believe that the companies behind social media platforms should rethink their business model and better defend the people. However, to convert themselves to social messaging, they should deny their roots and totally change the user experience. Also, they should ask us a license to use our patented features. Everything is possible, but this is difficult to happen.

Are my messages safe? How do you protect them from being snooped on?
We use end-to-end encryption, so no one can read your messages, not even us. However, your safety goes beyond your private messages. Just think about your searches, your saved contents, etc. As a thumb rule we encrypt everything private and we make your activity anonymous. For example, we will never know that you saved that story of your favorite sneaker or what you love to see on our platform.
How this affects advertising on Presence?
Contrary to common wisdom, privacy is not in contrast with advertising. Those who say the contrary, only want to have an excuse to collect undue data of yours. We do track your activity on Presence to show you the advertising that better matches your searches and tastes. But like with your chat messages, we keep these data on your phone, not on our servers. Also, we do not sneakily track you on Amazon or elsewhere.
What are your thoughts on privacy?
As you can see by using Presence, privacy is a top priority for us and we are not scared to go against the tide to protect our users. We are not the only ones to follow this principle. However, we think that privacy is only the tip of a daunting iceberg.
What do you mean for "daunting iceberg"?
We mean violations that are way worst than data breaches. We mean hatred crimes, falsehoods and mass-scale manipulation which are deeply harming people and our democracy. This is the daunting iceberg in front of our eyes. This is why we have created Presence and invite you to join a call to action.
Where are your data-centers located?
Our data-centers are located in the United States, Europe and other jurisdictions which strictly belong to democratic countries. This enables us to be as much independent as possible and better defend our platform. Also, Presence runs on top of a decentralized network which is untouchable by any form of government censorship and surveillance initiatives.
